Are you learning how to play electric guitar?  Are you finding yourself getting stuck in ruts and holes that you are having a hard time overcoming?  How to play electric guitar does take a lot of practice but it also takes motivation and dedication to pick it up every single day.  Learning other people’s music, learning new chords, and undertaking different styles of music are all good methods but there are times when this is not enough and you need a push from yourself to get things moving.

How to play electric guitar is actually a little easier than acoustic but this being said it is also harder to master.  There are more elements that go into playing electric such as the sound you are getting from your amp.  This can sometimes be a reason why people get frustrated when playing electric.  There are so many different sounds and ways to sound that you can become overwhelmed with all the options.  Finding a great sound can be just as hard as learning the electric itself.  Practicing solos and bar chords is great, but finding the great sound to go with them is what playing the electric guitar is about.

If you are just starting to learn how to play electric guitar you might get bored with playing sometimes and it could make you not want to play at all.  You can be envious and a little jealous of other guitarists getting the sweet sound that you are longing to find.  This is done over a matter of time and tweaking a little here and little there will help you find what you are looking for.  Most of the great guitarists that are considered to be legends are this way because they have not only mastered the guitar itself but the sound as well.  This is what makes many of them sound so amazing.  Sometimes it’s not so much what they are doing but the way they have their amps and effects pedals set to sound.  This is something very important to remember when learning how to play electric guitar.

Once you have a sound that you are comfortable with you can start to try and master that sound.  This will give you many more options when you are learning and it’s also a lot of fun to see just how many different ways you get your guitar to sound.  Learning how to play electric guitar should be fun and if you are finding it difficult to get motivated or enjoy yourself you are going to have a hard time trying to figure this all out.

Always remember that everything is easier to learn when you are having fun.  The human mind just soaks up information much faster when you are enjoying what you are learning.  Practicing scales, chords, and music can get a little dry for anyone so you need to find a way to spice it up.  Tweaking sound, reverb and distortion can help this process along.  Learning how to play electric guitar will take time so you might as well make every second you are playing count and have a blast while you are doing it.
